Manifesto :

Gardens within a Garden follows natural principles to arrange and connect the gardens throughout the site with an organic grid. The garden opens itself to the natural environment making the Haizhu lake part of the garden itself and creating different areas with multiple ambients.

The city of Guangzhou with both a fast urbanization and a rich cultural heritage faces a dilemma in choosing how to develop rapidly while maintaining it’s culture. In a few years, the planned Southern Green Central Axis will transform the nearby underdeveloped areas into a new city with skyscrapers and big commercial development. The One Center One Garden project is an attempt to imbue the future city with culture by placing the project in the Haizhu Lake facing the future Green Central Axis. The planned Green Central Axis follows the city with rigidity, rationality, and order, while Haizhu Lake follows nature emphasizing flexibility, irrationality, and disorder showing two contrasting ideals not allowing the city to blend with nature.

In an effort to correct this, One Center One Garden will be merged with Haizhu Lake and the Green Central Axis using a new organic grid that can better connect with the surrounding city fabric allowing all residents and visitors for more easy access. This way, a new organic city is created, where culture and green space is linked naturally with the city.
